TELEVISION
The scope and quality of television broadcasting in China has made significant improvements in the last few years. All the larger hotels in China offer a choice of numerous channels both national and international (like BBC World News, CNN, etc.). The State owned China Central Television (CCTV) currently has 10 channels, broadcasting over 160 hours daily. Some English programs are broadcasted every day on CCTV Channel 2, 4, 9 and 10. A 30-minute English language news program is broadcasted every evening at 23:00 by CCTV Channel 4.
RADIO
Many radio stations operate in China. China Radio International broadcasts to the world round-the-clock in 39 foreign languages and four Chinese dialects. The Easy FM station (on 91.5MHz) offers every day 12 hours of English broadcasting and Western music. This station is also a good source of information on what is happening in Beijing. Moreover, a five minutes news program is broadcasted every hour on the hour.
NEWSPAPERS
China Daily is the major English newspaper published in China. It reports both international and home affairs and is available free of charge in many of the larger hotels throughout the Country. Two other English-language publications, the Shanghai Star and Beijing This Month, are also available. They cover a wide range of topics and they are a good source of information for sightseeing, shopping, entertainment, and eating out.
Foreign-language newspapers and magazines, such as International Herald Tribune, The Times, Asian Wall Street Journal and Far Eastern Economic Review, are also available at most large hotels.
